Dr Johnny Latham - CBT (PgDip), MSc, MBACP (Accred), HCPC (Reg)
Adult, Teens, Children and Family Clinical Psychologist.
Who am I?
I'm Dr. Johnny Latham, and I have been working with adults, children and families for over 17 years.
Working with me you will be receiving a very high quality therapeutic service. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of mental health, and can offer support to an equal mix of both adults and children/teenagers.
Alongside my private practice, I work full time at Liverpool Hospitals NHS Foundation
Trust, and I also teach on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Liverpool.
Previously to working in Liverpool I was a clinical manager in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in South Yorkshire, a Senior CBT therapist for Oxford Health and a director of the children and family charity One-Eighty (www.one-eighty.org.uk).
In 2015 I received the Beck Scholarship award for services to CBT with families and in 2016 I was awarded the University of Oxford Vice Chancellor's Social Impact Award.
I trained in Oxford in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (PgDip), and I attended St. Catherines College at University of Oxford (MSc), continuing my interest into researching behaviour change and therapeutic interventions.
I am an accredited member of the BABCP and registered Clinical Psychologist with HCPC.
How I work and what to expect
My approach to therapy is client-centred, compassionate, honest and collaborative. I place great importance on the development of a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship, which I believe to be the key to successful therapy.
In the first few sessions, we work together to identify your goals for treatment and the most helpful and appropriate way to achieve these. Throughout the therapy, I will work with you to help you develop a better understanding of your difficulties, and to learn strategies and skills you can use to help you improve your current wellbeing and to protect yourself against similar difficulties in the future.
During therapy, we will frequently review our progress to make sure things are moving in the right direction, and to discuss anything that you would like to change about the work.
My clinical practice is strongly evidence-based and I draw on a range of therapeutic models according to the particular needs and preferences of each individual client. I use a predominantly cognitive behavioural approach (CBT) in combination with techniques from other models including Play therapy (for children), schema-focused therapy (SFT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and compassion focused therapy (CFT).
