Laura Philliskirk - PG Cert Psychological Therapies, BPhil, MEd Specialist Education (Autism).
Children & Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioner.
Hi, I’m Laura! I am a friendly and down to earth therapist with a passion for making a difference to young people’s lives.
I have worked with young people for over 20 years across my whole career, initially in educational settings and as a specialist support assistant in a special provision.
I have completed both a BPhil and Master’s in Specialist Education with a Specialism in Autism and supported young people’s mental health and wellbeing for many years alongside their education. I also have experience working with children in care who have had significant trauma in their lives.
Throughout my work, it became apparent to me that my passion was supporting young people’s mental health rather than academic expectations, so I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Delivering Psychological Therapies and worked for CAMHS and Charity Organisations as a CYWP (Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioner). This involves delivering low intensity CBT and parenting programmes based on social learning theory. I recently underwent training for Autism-specific parenting programmes and often work one-to-one with young people with additional needs and their families.
My own experiences as a teenager were difficult and resulted in me seeking counselling as an adult, this had such a positive effect on my life and allowed me to begin to meet my true potential. I now make it my purpose in life to help young people at such a difficult and crucial time in their lives so they can become confident and able adults.
