Kate Henderson - Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist.

CBT, CAT, Clinical Supervision.

BABCP (Acc) Children 10yrs+, Young People & Adults

Hi, I’m Kate

Thank you for visiting my page. I’m a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (CBT), and about to complete my Diploma in Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT). I work with young people and adults in a compassionate, relationship-focused and collaborative way. I offer a safe space for you to pause, reflect, and make sense of what’s happening in your life.

You might feel stuck, carry the weight of past experiences, or simply want to understand yourself more deeply. Together, we can explore the patterns that shape your relationships — with yourself, with others, and even with aspects of life such as school, work, or lifestyle — and gently uncover new ways of relating and communicating that feel more balanced, compassionate, and helpful.

Part of this involves tuning into your felt sense — the physical and emotional signals that arise in your body. These automatic responses are shaped by your nervous system and past experiences, and they often hold valuable clues about what you need.

Whatever brings you here, we’ll work together at your pace to explore what matters most to you.

My Approach

My approach is grounded in CAT and third-wave CBT.

CAT is a collaborative, relational therapy that helps us understand how early experiences shape the patterns we live out today — the ways we feel, think and relate to ourselves and others. These patterns often begin as ways of coping, but over time they can keep us stuck. In therapy, we’ll work together to map and make sense of these patterns, explore how they show up in your life, and experiment with new ways of responding that feel more supportive and aligned with how you want to live.

I also draw on third-wave CBT approaches, because sometimes it helps to bring in compassion-focused practices, mindfulness, values work and acceptance-based tools to complement what we’re doing in CAT. Everything I offer is relational, collaborative, and grounded in understanding your experiences rather than labelling them.

Working with Young People

I have over 20 years’ experience working with children, young people, parents and carers within CAMHS services, schools, local authorities, and private settings. I always hold in mind the bigger picture — the families, communities and systems we are all part of. Where helpful, I work alongside parents, carers or other professionals so that change is supported in the wider context of your life.

What Therapy Can Offer

Therapy offers a space to explore your story — how it has shaped the present and how it might evolve. Our past experiences influence how we feel, relate and communicate, but they don’t have to define our future.

Together, we might:
• Make sense of recurring patterns in relationships, emotions or communication
• Find new ways of coping with feelings that feel overwhelming
• Build self-compassion and a stronger sense of identity
• Explore how past experiences are influencing life now
• Experiment with different ways of responding to challenges

Through this process, we can begin to see that your story is not fixed — it’s still unfolding. I often use creative approaches such as mapping, writing or storytelling to support this work, especially when feelings are hard to put into words.
