Dr Anna Bridge - BSc, MSc, D ClinPsych Clinical Psychologist.
Adults, Children, Adolescents and Couples Therapist. Consultant and Supervisor.

I am a qualified and experienced Clinical Psychologist offering psychological assessment, formulation and therapy to children, adolescents and adults. I also offer a consultation and supervision service to agencies and healthcare professionals.
I have worked in the NHS for fourteen years, holding various research and clinical roles in Adult and Forensic Mental Health, and later specialising in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and Looked After Children. I continue to work and specialise in supporting young people aged 16-25 in residential care who have experienced Complex Trauma.
There may be times in our lives during which we encounter emotional and psychological difficulties, which are often natural and normal responses to challenging and stressful life experiences. Sometimes these may resolve themselves on their own, with our own coping strategies and the support of loved ones, and at other times we may need the support of a mental health professional. This is where seeking the right therapist can help us to find new ways of understanding ourselves and coping strategies.
I offer an empathic, non-judgemental and collaborative approach where we work together to develop a shared understanding ('formulation') of your difficulties, based on a range of psychological theories. I place great emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and believe that being understood, accepted and validated in a space without judgement, is a fundamental part of any psychological work.
My Background
Originally from the Wirral, I moved to Liverpool in 2007 shortly after completing my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Forensic Psychology. I held a number of positions in the NHS and private sector in adult and forensic mental health before completing my Doctoral Training at the University of Liverpool in 2019. I am passionate about helping people find meaning and purpose to their lives, however that may look, in addition to supporting the mental health of children and families.
My Services
As a Doctor of Clinical Psychology, I am trained in various evidenced-based therapeutic approaches which I can use individually or integrativly, to suit your needs. I am able to make adaptations to therapy to account for social and communication, learning and memory difficulties; such as Autism Spectrum Condition, Attention-defective Hyperactivity Disorder and sensory processing.
What is a Clinical Psychologist?
A Clinical Psychologist is a mental health professional who has extensive training in assessing, understanding and treating a range of psychological difficulties across the lifespan. They also act as consultants to other healthcare professionals and services, implement and lead on delivery of services in the NHS and other organisations, and are trained at the highest level in planning, conducting, and evaluating research.
Training takes on average around 8-10 years, starting with an undergraduate degree in Psychology (3 years), followed by employed postgraduate clinical experience (around 2-4 years), before undertaking a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (3 years). Many also choose to undertake Masters' Degrees to further develop their training experience and knowledge, prior to completing their doctoral training. Clinical Psychologists are trained in the NHS and undertake a range of clinical placements, academic and research work as employed Trainee Clinical Psychologists. Unlike Psychiatrists, who are medical doctors, they do not prescribe medication.
Therapeutic Approach
I mainly work relationally, and specialise in attachment-based approaches and therapies, including Cognitive Analytic Therapy and Psychodynamically Informed Therapy. These explore how our early childhood experiences impact how we relate to ourselves, others and the world. I also use elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy in my work.
I am able to work with a range of difficulties in both adults and children, including the following:
-
Interpersonal and Relationship Difficulties
-
Anxiety and Phobias
-
Trauma and Complex Trauma
-
Autism and ADHD
-
Mood Difficulties
-
