About me
I am a Practitioner Psychologist - Chartered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). After I qualified in 2017, I became interested in helping people who have experienced trauma, and those who encounter stressful life events.

Many of my clients are doing their best to manage difficult thoughts and emotions alongside maintaining relationships, family, a routine, hobbies and work. At times this can become overwhelming and people need some extra support not just to cope, but to thrive.

What does a psychologist do?
A psychologist helps people to understand and change unhelpful thoughts, emotions and behaviours that are having an adverse impact on themselves and/or others. My route to qualification involved completing a Bachelor’s degree (3 years) and a Master’s degree (1 year), before going on to train as a Forensic psychologist (4 years), which involved being assessed by the BPS on a number of competencies such as psychological assessment, therapeutic intervention and consultancy.

I have worked in range of settings, including secure, community, and mental health rehabilitation. Since qualifying I have also completed a PhD, which is an advanced degree that is earned by conducting original research that contributes to psychological practice. I did this because I was interested in how people build resilience after difficult life events.

I have had several of my own research studies published in peer reviewed journals. I’m particularly interested in what increases people’s quality of life and wellbeing. I use this knowledge alongside my clinical experience to help my clients build coping strategies to effectively manage the stresses and strains of life and recover from traumatic events.

My Therapeutic Approach
I provide a compassionate and non-judgemental space for clients. I specialise in complex trauma and PTSD. I also have extensive experience with emotion regulation (e.g., anger & anxiety), stress, addiction, attachment, and interpersonal difficulties. I have undertaken specialist training in
evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), which I can incorporate into my work.

EMDR is a type of therapy that helps the brain to resolve traumatic distress and negative beliefs. It is recommended by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to treat trauma. It can also resolve a range of distressing experiences and phobias that are having an impact on people’s day to day functioning.

How I work
Following the initial consultation, I will meet with you to conduct one or two assessment sessions, at your pace, to understand what is contributing to your challenges, help you to identify your goals, and explore any worries that you might have about therapeutic work. This will enable me to develop an individualised plan, which includes approximately how many sessions might be beneficial.
Together we can tailor this plan to fit with your needs and personal circumstances. Sessions can take place online or face to face, depending on your preference.

Appointment Fees
Free initial consultation by telephone (15 minutes)
£80 per hour session – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy based work
£100 per hour session – EMDR therapy

Appointments
I offer face to face or online appointments on Tuesday afternoons, and online appointments on Fridays (all day).

Registration
I hold Chartered status with the British Psychological Society (membership no. 242772) and I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (registration no. PYL34276). I am also registered with the Information Commissioners Office and hold full indemnity insurance.
